HWSB Klietznick dike, km 37.0 - 38.865

Client State Office for Flood Protection and Water Management Saxony-Anhalt

Otto-von-Guericke-Str. 5, 39104 Magdeburg

Performance period 2023 - today
Project During past extreme flood events of the Elbe in the years 2002 to 2013, the right Elbe embankment around Klietznick was repeatedly heavily stressed. There are deficits in the stability of this area, which require urgent action. The events made clear the necessity of flood protection for the protection of human health and the material goods and infrastructure located on the inner side of the flood protection facilities.

Flood protection around Klietznick is to be ensured, taking into account both ecological and economic aspects. Within the scope of this project, a dyke relocation will be realised, approx. 596 m of new dyke construction and dyke slitting. The slitting of the old Elbe dyke will be carried out over a length of 150 m, taking into account a necessary consolidation period for the new transverse dyke to be built. The future floodplain will have an area of approx. 101 ha and will be reconnected to the flooding rhythm of the Elbe.
