Deconstruction planning and supervision of a former DIY store in the southwest of Hamburg

The public sector is planning the development of a site that formerly served as a DIY store location. This required the demolition of the vacant DIY store building including the attached garden centre and the unsealing of the open spaces. The site is located in the southwest of Hamburg in the district of Neugraben-Fischbek. Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned with the preparation of the tender documents for the deconstruction of the building as well as the supervision of the construction during the deconstruction work.

A special feature of the deconstruction planning was that the building had been used as refugee accommodation since 2016 and therefore the installed temporary housing units had to be deconstructed in the course of the gutting work.

The tender documents for the deconstruction services were handed over to the client in December 2021 and the award of the services took place in February 2022. In March 2022, work began on the remediation of contaminants and gutting of the building. Mechanical building demolition was carried out from April 2022. The remediation, gutting and deconstruction work was accompanied by M&P experts.

Currently (as of the end of July 2022), the concrete from the demolition of the building and the unsealing of the open spaces is being processed on the site using a mobile crushing plant and recycled externally in other construction projects. The completion of the work is planned for August 2022, after which the site will be handed over to the client in a cleared condition.
